Government Dental College and Hospital

The Government Dental College and Hospital, Cuddalore district is situated in the town of Chidambaram in the Tamil Nadu state. This is one of the three dental colleges run by the Tamil nadu government. The instituition offers undergraduate course in Dentistry BDS with 100 seats and Post-graduate courses MDS in eight disciplines of dentistry.

With an history of being one of the oldest dental colleges in the Tamil Nadu state, this college was started in the year 1980 by Dr. Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar in the name of Rajah Muthiah Dental College and Hospital as part of Rajah Muthiah Institute of Health Sciences (RMIHS) under Annamalai University with the vision of serving the people of surrounding villages. The Annamalai University was later handed over to the Tamil Nadu Government. The Dental college came under the Department of Health and Famil Welfare in the year 2021 and is now called the Government dental college and hospital, Cuddalore dist., The students are admitted through a selection process by the Directorate of Medical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu. The institution is now affiliated toThe Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Guindy, Chennai.

The teaching hospital continues to serve the surrounding villages as part of the community services with it skilled doctors and well equip ed hospital apart from ensuring curative and rehabilitative services. This institution has produced almost forty batches and more than 2000 dental graduates. Many dental graduates of this institution have reached globally renowned postions. The college strives to provide dental education of global standards and promotes research in various fields of dentistry.

Situated in a vast green campus spawning over 14 acres in the spiritual city of Chidambaram the institution provides a calm and healthy atmosphere for learning. The hostel facilities provide a home away from home. There is adequate opportunity for additional learning and research for willing students as the university houses many other departments.
